The right thing for the lunchbox

Students need sufficient energy intake and appropriate nutrients to last until lunch break. They should not let too much time pass between meals. Here you will find various tips for putting together the ideal lunchbox.

The Following Vitamins and Minerals are Ideal for a Balanced Lunchbox:

  1. Beta-Carotene, e.g., found in carrots
  2. Vitamin A, Vitamin B12, and Folic Acid, present in eggs and dairy products.
  3. Vitamin B1, important for nerve metabolism and found in, for example, sunflower seeds and wheat germ
  4. Vitamin B6 found in bananas
  5. Magnesium, where mineral water (check the bottle for details) and nuts are the best sources.

Whole Grain Can Taste Good Too

Children are often reluctant to eat whole grain bread as it is less juicy compared to, for example, a traditional rye bread. However, it is still possible to find the right bread for the break. Look for finely ground bread that is fresh and moist. Alternatively, you can explore new variations baked with apples or carrots. By the way: "Whole grain" and "made with whole grains" are not the same. The latter often contains only sunflower seeds or other grains added to white flour. You can also make the bread more juicy with toppings such as quark or cream cheese, which also provide important vitamins.

Variations Make the Difference

Wraps are a great option as they are easy to prepare and offer variety.

Lunchbox Skewers
Create a skewer with small pieces of bread, cheese cubes, radishes, and rolled turkey breast. Wooden skewers for this purpose are available in every supermarket and are popular with children.

Little Extras
Add little extras like trail mix, dried fruits, or whole grain cookies to make the school lunch box perfect.

Drink Bottle
Don't forget to include a drink bottle with mineral water, herbal tea, or fruit spritzer to ensure the children stay well hydrated.
