Nolte Küchen publishes sustainability report for 2024

With its sustainability report for 2024, Nolte Küchen is publishing a detailed and transparent overview of its sustainability activities for the fourth time in a row. This includes not only the careful use of resources and the reduction of CO2 emissions, but also responsible corporate management that is committed to the rights and health of its employees. The report documents the status quo of sustainability efforts as well as measures and goals along the entire value chain. Suppliers and trading partners are included, as are Nolte Küchen employees and end consumers.

Some examples:

Sustainability begins with the selection of materials. Over 99% of the wood used in kitchen production comes from certified sources – in accordance with the strict standards of FSC® and PEFC. The chipboard used contains an average of 60% recycled wood, and in some cases, up to 100% from certain suppliers. This reduces the use of fresh wood and relieves pressure on natural forests. From 2025, Nolte Küchen will also be going one step further with plastics and using a recycled content of 30% in waste bins.

In addition, the company is consistently committed to waste prevention and resource conservation: thinner films and the use of reusable packaging not only reduce the consumption of packaging waste, but also lead to a closed material cycle, as does the recycling of all wood waste from production. The latter serves as fuel for the company's own heating system, covering over 98% of its total heating requirements.

In addition, all key Scope 3 subcategories were comprehensively accounted for this year for the second time – making Nolte Küchen the only manufacturer in the industry in Germany to do so.

In 2024, around 135,800 kWh could be saved compared to 2023. By way of comparison, a four-person household consumes an average of approximately 5,4001 kWh per year, which would correspond to the annual consumption of around 25 private households. This saving is due to the consistent switch to LED lighting and improvements in machine technology.

In the social sector, there was a significant reduction in the number of days lost due to illness – from 1,384 days in 2023 to 990 days in 2024. The rate of reportable accidents at work also fell from 19.7% to 15.7% compared to the previous year. This reflects a general improvement in occupational safety and employee well-being.

"This year's sustainability report shows that we are continuously achieving improvements with our ambitious goals and setting standards in our industry. By firmly integrating sustainability performance into our managers' target agreements for 2024, we are once again underlining the importance of quality and sustainability as a core value at Nolte Küchen," says Managing Director Heiko Maibach.

In addition, Nolte Holding is publishing a sustainability report at group level for the first time this year, which includes not only Nolte Küchen but also its other subsidiaries Express Küchen, Nolte Holding International, and Drum Systeme. The report is already based on the criteria of the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), which will be mandatory for companies from 2028.

The Sustainability Report 2024

The company's sustainability report for 2024 will also be presented at the trade fair. This is the fourth time in a row that Nolte Küchen has published a detailed and transparent presentation of its sustainability activities. Progress compared to last year can be seen, for example, in the reduction of electricity consumption through the consistent switch to LED lighting and improved machine technology, as well as a reduction in waste through thinner foils and reusable packaging. In addition, Nolte Holding is publishing a sustainability report at Group level for the first time this year, which is already based on the criteria of the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), which will be mandatory for companies from 2028.
