Butter lentil dal

Recipe Idea: Butter Lentil DalYou will need the following ingredients for this:
200 g urad dal (hulled black lentils), 1 medium-sized onion, 50 g butter, 2 tbsp ginger-garlic paste (ready-made product or homemade), 75 g tomato paste, 1 tsp smoked hot paprika powder, 1 heaped tsp garam masala, salt, 125 g cooking cream (15 % fat), 1 tbsp dried fenugreek leaves (Indian shop), coriander leaves
Preparation
- Cover lentils in a bowl with three times the amount of water and soak for at least 12 hours. Then drain, bring to a boil in a pot with plenty of water, and cook for about 45 min.
- Meanwhile, peel the onion and dice finely. Melt 30 g butter in a saucepan, add the diced onion and sauté at low heat for about 10 min, stirring frequently. Stir in the paste and sauté for another 1–2 min. Stir in tomato paste, add spices, and finally stir in the cream. Remove the spice paste from the heat.
- Drain the cooked lentils, reserving the liquid. Stir lentils, 200 ml of liquid, and fenugreek leaves into the spice paste and simmer for about 1 hr 30 min with the lid slightly open. Stir regularly, adding more liquid if necessary. At the end, stir in the remaining butter, season the dal with salt, and serve garnished with coriander leaves.
