Hot dog in Oktoberfest style

Instead of classic bratwurst, here is a hot dog recipe that combines street food and Bavarian cuisine ingeniously: Crunchy sausage in a fluffy pretzel bun, garnished with fresh radishes, spicy gherkin, crispy fried onions and creamy mustard dip. Perfect if you want to make a hot dog yourself that will surprise your guests - whether for an Oktoberfest party or as a special party idea in between.

Ingredients (for 4 hot dogs):

  • 4 pretzel sticks or pretzel buns
  • 4 sausages (e.g. bratwurst or white sausage, depending on taste)
  • 1 bunch of radishes
  • 3-4 gherkins
  • 3 tbsp fried onions
  • 2 tbsp coarse mustard
  • 2 tbsp sour cream or cream cheese
  • Salt, pepper, sugar to taste

Preparation

  1. Slice the pretzel sticks lengthways and briefly warm them in the oven so that they are fluffy on the inside and slightly crispy on the outside.
  2. Fry or grill the sausages as desired until they are golden brown and juicy - the perfect base for your homemade hot dog.
  3. Thinly slice the radishes and cut the gherkins into small cubes.
  4. For the dip, mix the mustard with the sour cream or cream cheese until creamy. Season to taste with salt, pepper and a pinch of sugar.
  5. Spread the mustard dip on the warm pretzel buns, place the sausage inside and top with radishes, diced gherkins and fried onions.

Tip: This recipe can be wonderfully varied - try it with white sausages or a vegetarian alternative.
