Three years ago we accompanied Julia (@hanghaus15) and her partner in a home story, when they moved into their impressive hillside home and enthusiastically set up their new Nolte kitchen. Back then Julia shared her vision with us about how the kitchen could become the heart of their home. Now we wanted to know: Has the kitchen proven itself, and do they still feel as comfortable there as they did on the first day? We asked Julia once again what life in the hillside home looks like today and whether the kitchen continues to meet their expectations.

Three years living the kitchen dream – Julia gives an update on life with her Nolte kitchen in Hanghaus15
The kitchen has now been in place for three years – are you still as enthusiastic as on the first day?
We enjoy it every day and have definitely made the right choice for us.
What do you still love about your kitchen, and is there anything you'd do differently today – and why?
I still love the classic design. The kitchen harmoniously blends into the overall interior design of the house. In retrospect, I wouldn't do much differently. Possibly, the worktop along the wall could have been chosen a little deeper to have more storage space.
How do you like your choice of the trend colour Lava in your kitchen? Has the colour proven timeless, or would you perhaps choose differently today?
We're very happy with the colour choice and can't imagine a more suitable shade. The colour is easy to combine, unobtrusive and looks slightly different depending on lighting conditions.
How do you personally interpret the modern country style, and how do you incorporate it into your decoration?
We designed our house in a classic-modern style. Panel doors, herringbone parquet floor, along with many natural materials such as wool carpets, stone, and wood. I prefer combining these with art and timeless design classics, such as the Hermann Miller lamp above the dining table.
Has the countertop proven itself in everyday use, and is it as easy to care for as you imagined?
Natural stone is somewhat sensitive regarding contact with acids (lemons etc.), one must be aware of that.
And would you choose the same countertop again today?
I think every material has its pros and cons. For me, natural stone would always be the first choice, but I could also imagine wood or ceramic in another combination.

How do you integrate your kitchen when you have guests? Do you use it as a central meeting place to cook together and spend time, or does it play more of a modest background role?
Guests often like to sit on the stools at the counter, which is particularly practical for celebrations when not everyone fits around the table but you still want to stay together in one place. We also like sitting there, for instance to open the mail or read the newspaper.
Does your partner still do most of the cooking, or have you since discovered the kitchen for yourself too? If so, what do you most enjoy preparing?
We have some favorite dishes that we both enjoy preparing, and I also like to try out recipes that are shared on Social Media. The kitchen has definitely awakened my curiosity to experiment more with culinary topics.
Have you since expanded your kitchen with additional elements or perhaps changed something to suit your needs even better?
The kitchen itself is unchanged; in the directly adjoining pantry, we have added some additional shelves to increase storage space. Additionally, we have purchased an Airfryer, which is versatile in use.
What do your friends and family think of your kitchen? Have you perhaps even inspired someone to plan a similar kitchen for themselves?
Tastes and requirements are very individual; if our kitchen serves as inspiration for future builders, we are even more pleased.
