Baked Beans

This dish is absolutely essential to a good English breakfast!

Recipe idea: Baked BeansFor this, you will need the following ingredients:

1 onion, 1 piece fresh ginger (approx. 2 cm), 2 tbsp neutral vegetable oil, 2 large cans white beans (drained weight 480 g), 800 g sieved tomatoes, 4 tbsp apple cider vinegar, salt, 4 cloves, 4 bay leaves, 2 pinches cayenne pepper, 4 tbsp dark maple syrup, also small ovenproof dish, oil for the dish

  1. Preheat the oven to 180 °C. Peel the onion and ginger and cut into fine cubes.
  2. Heat the oil in a sufficiently large pot and gently sauté the onion and ginger cubes over low heat for approx. 3 min.
  3. Drain the beans in a sieve and add them to the pot along with the strained tomatoes, vinegar and spices. Stir in the syrup and bring everything to a boil.
  4. Grease the baking dish, pour in the contents from the pot. Bake the Baked Beans in the hot oven for approx. 1 hr. and serve hot.
