Tell us a bit more about your role at Nolte Küchen.
I've worked at Nolte Küchen in Online Marketing since the beginning of 2018. Initially, I was digitally something of a "Jack of all trades" – my responsibilities included managing the website, the kitchen planner, social media activities, online advertisements, etc. Today, I'm mainly responsible for the new area of email marketing, as well as developing and expanding partner collaborations.
Which aspects of your online marketing tasks at Nolte Küchen do you especially enjoy?
Online marketing demands creativity and innovation to succeed in a competitive environment. This means I can realise creative campaigns on one hand, and implement technically complex projects on the other. The scope of duties is very broad, and due to the continuous digital evolution, it never becomes boring. However, the latter is both exciting and challenging at the same time. Especially in the kitchen industry, digital aspects have significantly changed over recent years.
You moved into your house in 2021. Which aspects of the house construction were particularly exciting for you?
Overall, creating our own home was extremely exciting during the construction phase. It already began when laying the foundations. When they were being laid, we drove to the house almost daily to admire the progress. The interior fitting phase was particularly exciting, as everything increasingly took shape and form. Everything previously decided and chosen now became reality.
What role did the kitchen design play in the planning of your house and how did it fit into the overall concept?
The kitchen design played a central role in our house planning. For example, we first planned the kitchen and then adapted the rooms according to the kitchen layout. Furthermore, in our house the rooms such as kitchen, dining area, living room, hallway, staircase and entrance area are designed completely open. Therefore, it was especially important for us that the kitchen integrates well with the entire design, as it is a very central place on our ground floor.
Modern minimalism meets clear lines

You have a very modern and straightforward kitchen. You planned your kitchen yourself for the new build. How did your professional experience at Nolte Küchen influence you in this?
I planned the kitchen together with a colleague from our planning department. However, since I had already been working at Nolte Küchen for 3 years, I had precise ideas about how the kitchen should look. This was truly, as I see it, extremely helpful. The otherwise complex kitchen planning felt almost effortless for me this way. Even though you continue to learn daily in the kitchen industry because there are so many details to learn about kitchens, I already had good knowledge that I could apply in my own planning. Also, through our trade fairs, exhibition kitchens, and photo materials, I had gathered a lot of inspiration that helped me with planning. The straightforward structure of the kitchen was particularly important to me here to achieve a harmonious overall appearance.
Doing without wall units gives the kitchen a unique appearance. What is your personal experience with this design decision?
I would choose this again every time! I did not want wall units, so that the kitchen integrates perfectly into the living space and does not look like a classic kitchen at first glance. Due to the absence of wall units, the kitchen has a much more homely character. The low plinth height of 50 mm also contributes to this. Thus, the cabinets appear to be "floating" and the plinth is barely visible.
The decision to integrate the oven to the side into the open kitchen-living space to avoid immediately visible electrical appliances sounds interesting. What inspired this design choice?
I think the first time I saw the side-integrated oven was at a trade fair, where Nolte Küchen was represented, and immediately loved it. Again, the openness of our kitchen was a major factor for me. With the oven integrated at the side, visually the kitchen is more like a piece of living-room furniture and offers a calmer overall appearance.
The idea of a raised dishwasher is clever and practical. What advantages does this decision offer you in your daily kitchen routine?
The raised dishwasher is ergonomically really valuable. Since I am very tall at 1.80 m, this eliminates the constant bending down to load dishes. That's really comfortable. Regarding ergonomics, we additionally opted for the extra high "Matrix 900" carcase from Nolte Küchen. By choosing a low plinth (50 mm) and a slim worktop (25 mm), we were thus able to create a higher working surface.
It looks as though your kitchen provides a lot of workspace?
Yes exactly. The long kitchen row and the kitchen island offer us plenty of workspace. We even expanded this further by deciding on an extra-deep worktop of 75 cm. Having sufficient space for working was very important to us, so that we don't get in each other's way during daily cooking, and also have enough space together with friends.
What inspired you to incorporate a kitchen island into your design? Has the kitchen island changed interaction within the kitchen, for example while cooking or during social gatherings?
Our Nolte kitchen has become the focal point of our home. It is not only a place for cooking, but also a place for meeting and gathering. Through the open design with the kitchen island, you can interact with family or guests while cooking and remain part of the activities.

Juliane, Nolte employee
The straightforward layout of the kitchen was particularly important to me here, to create a consistent overall look.
The lighting in your kitchen looks great. What role does lighting play in your kitchen?
Since we don't have any wall units, we couldn't rely on under-cabinet lights, for example. To ensure our work surface still receives sufficient illumination, we opted for wall lights. These are both functional, as they give us light for working, and visually very appealing, because they loosen up the overall look a bit. In the kitchen island, we chose illuminated recessed grips. We use the wall lighting and also the island lighting in the evenings as ambient light when we sit in the living room.
Beside your kitchen is your utility room. Did you also install furniture from Nolte Küchen here?
Exactly, we found it perfect to also choose Nolte for the utility room. Since the rooms are directly next to each other, we were able to create a consistent appearance. The cabinets in the utility room also have white fronts with concrete-effect worktops. However, unlike the kitchen, here we chose a variant with handles. I love the laundry sorting cabinet in the utility room. Here, the laundry is already neatly pre-sorted before you even start the washing machine, and I can see clearly when it’s time to wash again.
Are there any other rooms you've furnished with pieces from Nolte Küchen?
Yes, even in our two bathrooms, the vanity units are from Nolte. Since we are convinced of the kitchen quality and design, Nolte was a natural choice here as well. In terms of design, we also chose a handleless variant in white. Compared to the kitchen, however, the vanity unit tops are in a wood decor.
As an employee at Nolte Küchen, you certainly know the various kitchen trends. Could you tell us about currently popular trends that you find particularly appealing?
Scandinavian kitchen design will again play a major role in 2024. It is characterized by bright colours, discreet decorations, clear lines, and simple design with a touch of typical country-home style. Another popular style is Japandi, which is currently trending. Here, the minimalist simplicity of Scandinavian design merges with the aesthetic sophistication of Japanese culture. This combination creates a timeless and harmonious space that combines tranquillity and functionality in the kitchen.
In our interviews, we always ask what "Für das Leben in der Küche" means. Therefore, we are excited about your answer to this as part of the Nolte Küchen team.
For me, "Für das Leben in der Küche" has several meanings. In a professional context, for me, it means having passion for kitchen-related work and also teamwork. We all share a connection to the kitchen and deal with the kitchen topic every day, naturally shaping our lives :) In a private context, "Für das Leben in der Küche" means for me that the kitchen is a central place in our home around which our life revolves. For us, the kitchen is therefore the heart of the home. It is a place where we live and cook.
