The freedom simply "to be"

A man in a yellow jacket sits on a wooden fence with snow-covered mountains in the background.

Between nature, speed and conviviality – Johannes Lochner about his path to success, his love for his homeland and the kitchen as the heart of his home.

Johannes Lochner (@bobteam.johannes.lochner) grew up in Schönau am Königssee. Since his childhood, he has loved the Berchtesgadener Land with its fascinating Alpine panorama. Whether hiking, cycling or swimming in a lake with drinking water quality – activities and sports know no limits here. For Johannes, the freedom of being in nature and enjoying the vastness of the landscape is an indescribable feeling of life.

GlossaryWhat does a professional bobsledder actually do?

Bobpilot: Controls the bob at high speed through the ice track – precision, courage and body control are required. Johannes Lochner belongs to the world elite.

Anschieber: Ensures the explosive start and supports the team with power and timing.

Ice track: The frozen racetrack with partially extreme curves – speeds up to 150 km/h are not uncommon.

Through various alpine sports, such as ski jumping or skiing, he came to bobsleigh in 2011 through his uncle Rudi. At speeds of up to 160 km/h, he rapidly flies through the curves of national and international bobsleigh tracks. Johannes takes us into his everyday life, shows us training routines and talks about nutrition plans – which for bobsleigh athletes aren't quite as strict as for other competitive athletes.

Johannes's greatest triumph so far has been his two Olympic medals and two World Championship victories. It's an absolute home advantage for him when he wins on the bobsleigh track at Königssee and sees the cheering, familiar faces of the spectators! The feeling when the "1" is displayed at the front is unique for him. Driven by his own motivation and competitive spirit, Johannes Lochner will certainly achieve many more successes, hopefully soon again on the renovated bobsleigh track, his favorite track, at home at Königssee.

The two-time Olympic medalist and bobsleigh world champion shows how top performance, connection to home and true living quality can come together. In his Homestory he speaks about his daily sports routine, his love for nature – and why the kitchen is for him the social centre of his home.
